  6. 1. Installation
  7. ---------------
  8. 1.0. General
  9. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  10. If you have not installed any Pro Series drivers before, you can skip the 
  11. instructions for cleaning up the old drivers and go right to the section 
  12. that describes the installation of the new drivers.  If you have an older 
  13. version of the drivers already installed on your system you need to 
  14. follow the appropriate uninstall procedure to prepare your system for the 
  15. update.
  16.  
  17. Once you have installed the drivers, be sure to read the Release Notes 
  18. located in the TBS Pro Audio program group for additional information on 
  19. the Pro Series cards.
  20.  
  21. If any problems were encountered during or after installing the drivers, 
  22. refer to the Testing and Troubleshooting document also located in the TBS 
  23. Pro Audio program group. 
  24.  
  25. 1.1. Windows 3.1 users
  26. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  27. If you have an old installation of Windows 3.1 drivers for the Pro Series 
  28. cards use the following procedure to cleanup your system.
  29.  
  30. To uninstall old drivers in Windows 3.x:
  31. 1. Determine the current resource settings of the card, especially the 
  32.    upper memory block it uses.
  33. 2. Open the Control Panel, double-click Drivers, highlight Turtle Beach 
  34.    MIDI, WAV, AUX and press the Remove button.
  35. 3. If you had a Pinnacle installed, repeat step 2 for the Wavefront MIDI 
  36.    driver.
  37. 4. Minimize the TBS Pro Audio program group in the Program Manager, 
  38.    highlight it, and select Delete from the File menu.
  39. 5. From the File menu, select Run.  In the dialog box, enter SYSEDIT,
  40.    and click OK.  The System Configuration Editor opens.
  41.    a) In the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, delete the line containing PINCFG.EXE. 
  42.    b) In the CONFIG.SYS file, if an upper memory manager such as 
  43.       EMM386.EXE was loaded, there will be an exclude switch that 
  44.       pertains to the upper memory block used by the card, such as 
  45.       NOEMS X=D000-D7FF.  Remove this exclude switch (NOEMS X=D000-D7FF),
  46.       NOT the memory manager.
  47.    c) In the SYSTEM.INI file, under the [386Enh] section will be an 
  48.       EMMExclude statement that refers to the upper memory block used by 
  49.       the card.  Delete this line.
  50. 6. Exit Windows and remove the TBS Pro Audio directory with all its 
  51.    subdirectories. An easy way to do this is to enter the following 
  52.    commands at the DOS prompt:
  53.  
  54.    deltree C:\tbeach\pinnacle (for an old Pinnacle install)
  55.    deltree C:\tbeach\fiji (for an old Fiji install)
  56.    deltree C:\tbspros (for a new 3.x install)
  57.  
  58. To install new drivers in Windows 3.x:
  59. 1. Start Windows 3.1.
  60. 2. Run SETUP.EXE from the driver disk.
  61. 3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  62.  
  63. 1.2. Windows 95 users
  64. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  65. Windows 95 users that have a previous installation of the Pinnacle or 
  66. Fiji drivers need to remove them before installing new drivers. 
  67.  
  68. To uninstall old drivers in Windows 95:
  69. 1. Start Windows 95.
  70. 2. Run CLEANUP.PIF from the driver disk.
  71. 3. A DOS box opens and you are prompted whether or not to continue 
  72.    uninstalling the drivers.  Press Y to continue.
  73. 4. Follow the directions given by the cleanup program to uninstall the 
  74.    drivers, answering Yes or No appropriately.
  75.  
  76. To install new drivers in Windows 95 Plug and Play mode:
  77. 1. Start Windows 95.
  78. 2. Windows 95 should automatically detect the card on the first boot up 
  79.    after installation or cleanup.
  80. 3. When the Install From Disk dialog box displays, browse to the location
  81.    of the driver disk and click OK.
  82. 4. Windows then copies the files from the driver disk. You may be 
  83.    prompted to provide your Windows 95 CD or floppies.
  84. 5. After driver installation the setup program should be launched 
  85.    automatically and finish the install.  If not run SETUP.EXE from the
  86.    driver disk.
  87. 6. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  88.  
  89. To install new drivers in Windows 95 legacy mode:
  90. 1. Go to Control Panel|Add New Hardware.
  91. 2. Click Next, select No, click Next, select Sound, video and game
  92.    controllers and click Next again.
  93. 3. Click Have Disk..., browse to the location of the driver disk, and 
  94.    click OK.
  95. 4. Select TBS Pro Series Digital Audio from the list of devices, click
  96.    OK, and follow the instructions on the screen.
  97. 5. If Windows prompts you to restart your computer choose No.
  98. 6. If you're installing a Pinnacle card repeat steps 1 and 2, then select
  99.    Turtle Beach Systems from the list of manufacturers, and select TBS
  100.    Pro Series Kurzweil Synthesizer, click OK, and follow the instructions
  101.    on the screen.  Do not restart your computer when prompted.
  102. 7. Now run SETUP.EXE from the driver disk and follow the instructions on 
  103.    the screen.

  105. 1.3. Windows NT 4.0 Users
  106. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  107. To uninstall old drivers in Windows NT:
  108. 1. Open the Control Panel and double click the Multimedia icon. 
  109. 2. Click the Devices tab.  A list of the Multimedia drivers is displayed. 
  110. 3. Click the (+) button to the left of Audio Devices to open it.  This 
  111.    displays the Pro Series driver.
  112. 4. Click Pro Series to highlight the driver and click the Remove button.
  113. 5. Click Yes.  When prompted to restart click the Restart Now button to 
  114.    restart the computer. 
  115.  
  116. To install new drivers in Windows NT:
  117. 1. Open the Control Panel and double click the Multimedia icon.  Click 
  118.    the Devices tab. 
  119. 2. At the bottom of the dialog box, click the Add button.  The Add dialog 
  120.    box opens.
  121. 3. From the List of Drivers, click Unlisted or Updated Driver then click 
  122.    OK. The Install Driver dialog box appears.
  123. 4. Place the drivers diskette into the floppy drive.  In the Install 
  124.    Driver dialog box browse to the location of the driver disk and click
  125.    OK.
  126. 5. The Add Unlisted or Updated Driver dialog box appears with the Pro 
  127.    Series driver.  Select it and click OK.
  128. 6. If you are reinstalling the Pro Series card or older drivers already 
  129.    exist on your system, you may receive a Driver Exists dialog box. This 
  130.    asks you to install either the current drivers found on your system or 
  131.    new drivers.  Click New to continue. 
  132. 7. The MultiSound Configuration dialog box appears.  If you have made any 
  133.    changes to the configuration on the card, such as the Control Port 
  134.    address, set them in this dialog box to match the settings on the 
  135.    card.
  136. 8. Click OK when you are done.  When you are prompted to restart Windows
  137.    click the Restart Now button to restart Windows.  
  138. 9. Now run SETUP.EXE from the driver disk and follow the instructions on 
  139.    the screen.

  155. Windows 95 users can verify that they're using the latest version of 
  156. the drivers by going to Control Panel|System|Device Manager|Sound,
  157. video and game controllers, then double click the appropriate device,
  158. select the Driver tab, and highlight a file from the list.  The file
  159. version will be displayed below.

  265.      - all of the above drivers/applets are multi-card aware, that means 
  266.        you can run up to 4 Pro Series cards in one system
  267.      - to run multiple cards in one system you must either
  268.        * have all but one card configured in legacy mode, using different
  269.          jumper settings for the control port, or
  270.        * use the PROGRAM.BAT utility in the EEPROM folder to re-program 
  271.          and serialize your E2PROM's
